Don’t Worry About Them, Worry About Yourself

“The tranquility that comes when you stop caring what they say. Or think, or do. Only what you do.”

Marcus Aurelius, Meditations 4.18

This is very hard sometimes. It’s very easy to try to please others at our own expense, or worse, to be upset that others are attacking your character, personality, judgement, appearance, or intelligence. History is littered with examples of empires who collapsed for this very reason; internal conflict and discord. Focus. Keep your eye on the prize of improving your own behaviour. Check your ego and work on your own shortcomings rather than worrying about the fickle opinions and actions of others.

It is the only thing you can control after all.
