Maintain Control

When forced, as it seems, by circumstances into utter confusion, get a hold of yourself quickly. Don’t be locked out of the rhythm any longer than necessary. You’ll be able to keep the beat if you are constantly returning to it.

Marcus Aurelius, Meditations 6.11

This is very difficult to implement and very useful to remember. I could totally have used this thought yesterday rather than succumbing to consolation comforts. I must return to the rhythm as soon as I am able. In addition to that, I must forgive myself those past comforts in order to calm my inner conflict.

Nothing is great unless it’s also at peace.

Seneca

To grow to my fullest potential, I must establish and maintain inner stillness and peace through acceptance and keeping the conscious mind in control of the subconscious impulses.
