Flexibility of the Will

“Remember that to change your mind and to follow someone’s correction are consistent with a free will. For the action is yours alone—to fulfill its purpose in keeping with your impulse and judgment, and yes, with your intelligence.”

Marcus Aurelius, Meditations, 8.16

It is very easy to fall into the trap of refusing to acquiesce and stubbornly barrelling forward with what we think is right, or worse, what we think we are owed, just “because”. Adapting to changing circumstances does not ever mean losing our freedom. It means exercising it.

“The impediment to action advances action. What stands in the way becomes the way.”

Marcus Aurelius

This is one of his most famous quotes so I’m probably going to use and reference this one quite a lot. It’s very important to remember when things don’t go your way.
